Biography

Love was born in Brooklyn, New York, and later moved to Connecticut, where she graduated from the University of Hartford with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She then moved to Saratoga Springs, Utah, where she ran for city council and served several terms. She was elected mayor of Saratoga Springs in 2009. Love is the first black, female Republican to serve in Congress. In addition, "Love, fellow Rep.-elect Will Hurd (Texas) and Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) also are part of the largest black Republican class in Congress since the Reconstruction era," according to The Hill.
